A "special presentation" trailer featuring Daft Punk and their track " Derezzed" was released online on October 26, 2010. The first theatrical trailer for TRON: Legacy featured the track "The Game Has Changed". "Maybe I only saw it two or three times in my entire life, but the feel of it is strong even now, that I think the imprint of the first will not be erased by the new one. Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo also stated that the original TRON film was a strong influence on him as a child. Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk had previously produced the Irréversible soundtrack and served as sound effects director for the film Enter the Void.Ĭommenting on the TRON: Legacy score, Bangalter noted that "We knew from the start that there was no way we were going to do this film score with two synthesizers and a drum machine.” Daft Punk cited Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, John Carpenter, Vangelis and Maurice Jarre as inspiration for the soundtrack. Daft Punk's score was arranged and orchestrated by Joseph Trapanese. Kosinski referred to the score as being a mixture of orchestral and electronic elements. When asked why he wished to work with the duo, Kosinski replied, "How could you not at least go to those guys?" The score features an 85-piece orchestra, recorded at AIR Lyndhurst Studios in London. Yes, this blog post needs more Daft Punk images.TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and music supervisor Jason Bentley approached Daft Punk and requested that the duo compose the film score. When they get to working on their next album I really hope they go back to what they did in Discovery, which is still one of my top favorite albums. My score 4/5īelow is a list of my favorites from the soundtrack: I like the direction that they took with this when they could have easily made a simple soundtrack consisting of repetitive house beats and a drum machine. People may be turned away from this because of how much classical music is infused into this, but I personally like the change. Most of these songs are short, 1 to 2 minute range, and you won’t be getting any long epic songs from this. My main complaint with this is that this movie soundtrack is well, a movie soundtrack. You got Jeff Bridges in my soundtrack (The Grid) The only song that has the most similarities to their past work is Derezzed. They did a fantastic job in using the orchestra along with electronic touches to create an intense somewhat somber atmosphere. The soundtrack sounds nothing like their past work and I appreciate their boldness in wanting to try something completely new for them. What I was hearing was basically a fusion of electronic and classical music. After going through several tracks, I was shocked at how different the music was to what I was expecting.ĭaft Punk recently announced that they had hired a full orchestra for the soundtrack and it shows. I was expecting more electronic music similar to what they did before, but I was very wrong. After listening to the soundtrack's single, Derezzed, I was pretty stoked. Anyways onto to my thoughts on this soundtrackįinally I am able to get my hands on Daft Punk's newest work and I must say that the wait was worth it. I decided to just torrent the soundtrack and I have no shame in doing so because I ordered the deluxe edition, mainly for the awesome poster, which I look forward to receiving. For those of you who want to listen to the soundtrack, it's being streamed here:
